Toronto FC defeated the Columbus Crew 1-0 on Sunday, marked as MLS decision day.
Manager Greg Vanney named the same starting lineup as last week in Chicago.
TFC needed to win their match and help from two other eastern conference games for them to host a playoff match. Montreal Impact had to win or draw against New York Red Bulls, and FC Cincinnati needed to win or draw against D.C. United.
The Impact were up 2-0 at half against New York, while Cincinnatti went into halftime down to nine men as two players were given straight red cards just minutes apart.
Toronto took a 1-0 lead in the 58th minute from an Alejandro Pozuelo free kick.
They held onto that lead for the rest of the match with strong defensive plays.
Montreal won 3-0, and Cincinnatti stood their ground as they drew 0-0 in Washington.
Toronto FC will host D.C. United on October 19 at BMO Field. The winner will go on to play NYCFC.
Kick-off is set for 6 p.m.
