Humber Arboretum to connect to main trail in new project

A new project announced by Humber College over the summer will connect North Campus and the Arboretum to the West Humber Recreational Trail that runs the alongside the river from around Kipling Heights to near the intersection of Finch Ave. West and Hwy 427 just west of the campus.

The new infrastructure, under construction until an anticipated completion date of “winter 2019” is part of Humber’s goal to advance the Okanagan Charter the college signed on to in 2018. The Humber Arboretum Trail Project is funded by the City of Toronto and is being worked on with the local conservation authority.

The trail aims to “support human and environmental well-being”, a press release from Humber said. “Improved trail conditions will reduce erosion and improve public safety.”

The project also promises that “native tree and shrub planting will also enhance wildlife habitat and biodiversity on campus” as well as “better access for Humber students to natural learning spaces and increased access to health and wellness opportunities in nature for the entire Humber community.”
