Toronto FC lost their first home game of the season to the Portland Timbers 2-1 who picked up their second consecutive win.
Quentin Westberg made his home debut replacing Alex Bono. Jordan Hamilton started in place of Jozy Altidore who will be sidelined with a hamstring injury for 2-3 weeks.
Veteran keeper Steve Clark started in place for Jeff Attinella.
Toronto’s first chance came in the 19th minute from an Alejandro Pozuelo free kick which was parried by Clark and went out for a corner. The opening goal came in the 20th minute from the ensuing corner as Jonathan Osorio put home a loose ball after Eriq Zavaleta headed it down towards goal.
TFC’s backline has been shaky this season thus far and gives up goals easily after scoring, which is what happened in this match. Chris Mavinga blocked a shot that went out for a corner, and Portland equalized right after in the 22nd minute. New Zealand centre back Bill Tuiloma volleyed in a Diego Valeri cross to tie it at 1-1.
Portland scored the game-winner in the 70th minute off the head of Jeremy Ebobisse. Sebastian Blanco sent in a cross and Ebobisse did well to dive and head it past Westberg.
Toronto FC’s next game is against Orlando City SC at Orlando City Stadium.
Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
