United Conservative Party wins Alberta

Staff | LIVE

Residents in Alberta voted to elect the United Conservative Party into a majority government, according to polls coming in late on Tuesday night.

The current New Democratic Party government, who ended a 44-year Progressive Conservative reign last election, took on the newly United Conservatives this spring in a fierce campaign.

It should be noted that 696,000 individuals voted in advance and 223,000 voted outside the province and those ballots will not be counted until Wednesday morning.

The rest of the advanced ballots came in from inside the province — overall, double the amount that went to polls ahead of time than in 2015.

The Alberta Party is aiming to increase their three seats, and are aiming for 10 to 12 seats. The Alberta Liberals and the Freedom Conservatives each hold one seat.
