Mental health supports on campus and beyond

Eli Ridder | Report

The final exam period at post-secondary institutions has been proven in studies to cause mental health stress to even the point of self-harm or suicides, however, there are supports available on campus and beyond.

The first stop for mental health inquires on campus is the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre which provides first-response counselling, health and accessibility services. However, note that counselling offered at SWAC is not long-term therapy.

SWAC is located on the second floor of the Learning Resource Commons, the large building in the front of the North Campus. The SWAC office on Lakeshore Campus is on the second floor of the Humber Student Welcome and Resource Centre.

On-campus emergencies can be called in at (416) 675-6622 ext. 4000 and those with off-campus emergencies should call 911. For mental health, students are directed to call 416-675-5090 for North or 416-675-6622 ext. 3331 for Lakeshore.

As for off-campus mental health supports, there are several. For anxiety, depression and suicide, CAMH, More Feet On The Ground, Nedic and Canadian Association forSuicide Prevention are available as resources.

Indigenous Peoples are encouraged to access 1-855-242-3310 as a crisis line.
