Raptors go 5-0 with win over Minnesota

Tomas Karageorgos | Report

The Minnesota Timberwolves were without Canadian star Andrew Wiggins as they took on the Raptors on Wednesday night at Scotiabank Arena.

Wiggins sat out with a right quad contusion and watched his team lose to Toronto by a score of 112-105. Only eight players were dressed for Minnesota as they put up a decent battle against the Raptors.

Some say that Kawhi Leonard carried Toronto to this victory, but the Raptors play team basketball, getting everyone involved to make plays. Kawhi did lead all scorers with 35 points, but everyone chipped in as always. Serge Ibaka started at centre again and finished with 15 points and seven boards. Kyle Lowry did a little bit of everything, finishing with 13 points, 10 assists, and six boards. Valanciunas came off the bench again but put up starter numbers, scoring 16 points, including two three pointers, and grabbing nine rebounds.

Delon Wright came back from injury to make his season debut, but didn’t score and only played five minutes.

Jimmy Butler lead Minnesota with 23 points, and Derrick Rose provided some offensive help off the bench with 16 points. Karl-Anthony Towns was quiet on the night, only putting up 14 points.

Kawhi Leonard continues to make plays on both ends of the floor, as he intercepted a pass from Minnesota in the second quarter.

Kawhi explained in the post-game interview that he couldn’t see the ball at all, he just hoped to get something on the ball.

The Raptors match their best impressive start since the 2015-16 season, when they made the conference finals. Their end goal is to go all the way to the finals and be the last team standing.

They still have a long season ahead of them, with their next game against the Dallas Mavericks at home on Friday. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
