Raptors bench bounces back in win over Nuggets

After a let down performance from the bench Sunday versus the Clippers, Toronto’s bench showed up Tuesday, helping hand the Nuggets a 114-110 defeat.

It wasn’t a cake walk by any stretch, but the Raptors tamed a team that is fighting every game for their playoff lives.

The highlights from the second unit featured Fred VanVleet with 15 points, while Pascal Siakam and Jakob Poeltl added 12 each.

Speaking of the bench, Delon Wright hit an impressive half court shot just before the conclusion of the first quarter, putting the Raptors ahead 25-22.

Toronto’s defense also returned to form in the game, limiting the sixth ranked Denver offense to 47% shooting.

The Raptors also forced the Nuggets to turn the ball over 13 times, while blocking a season best 16 shots (four a piece from Ibaka, Lowry, and Valanciunas).

In terms of the offensive side of the ball, a few noticeably pretty plays took place through the game.

Kyle Lowry found DeMar DeRozan in the third quarter, for a beautiful alley-oop jam.

And Jakob Poeltl embarrassed veteran Paul Milsap with a posterizing dunk late in the fourth frame.

The Raptors are off until Saturday, with a marquee road matchup against the second seeded Boston Celtics.

Game time is 7:30 p.m. from the TD Garden and can be viewed on Sportsnet One.
